Dear Neighbourhood Link Member, Wow has it been a hot one. With the sun out, late nights and the clear need to open windows there is often a noticeable increase in burglaries across the area but I'd like to say that with the vigilance of the community, the more focussed targeted patrols of the local beat teams (and a few visits to previous offenders to remind them that we know who they are!) the levels have not risen....
However! we have seen an increase in street crime around thefts from stores and some particularly nasty individuals have started to use fraud and distraction to steal jewellery (generally necklaces/chains). You'll see us out and about, you may have heard us on the radio and we have appreciated the support from the community to help spread the messages around minimising the risk and helping us identify those involved. Please be reassured that we are working closely with specialist investigative support both locally and regionally and we have made arrests.. but it won't stop others trying!
Following you telling us providing us with key information we have been out and about conducting several drugs warrants across East Leicester focussing on those causing us the most harm and in tandem safeguarding those taken advantage of including children and vulnerable adults. We will continue to try and make the area toxic to those who wish to cause harm to the area and will continue to rely heavily (and greatly appreciate) the intelligence that comes in from our residents.
In the background we've been working with key partners, community groups, charity groups and key community contacts to plan ahead for the next few months with Ganesh coming up in September, Remembrance Sunday, Yom Kippur, Diwali and Bonfire night in the months after to name but a few.
I'll continue to look to encourage people to celebrate their own cultures whilst asking that an awareness and respect is shown for those around them and that we remain tolerant wherever we can!
